Digital Intimacy

With the growth of popularity of blogs and social networks, the internet is becoming a way to connect people on a more intimate level. Social networks allow people to find friends from their past and keep in touch with them and others near and far. The new Facebook homepage is like Twitter. Now you can “see” what people are doing at any given time that they post their actions/thoughts. While reading Brave New World of Digital Intimacy, I agreed with the author’s initial opinion about Twitter. I don’t see a point in telling people everything I do throughout the day. My life isn’t that interesting, and I doubt anyone would really care. I guess I feel this way because I do not participate. Once the author got involved with Twitter, he began to see the attraction. I guess reading about my friends activities would give me a deeper sense of knowing them, however, I feel like I don’t have the time to sit and watch what everyone I know is typing.
