I liked this article because as a tea-drinker I found the health benefits of green tea fascinating! Many may not know that green tea and black tea come from the same leaf. However, they are processed differently. Green tea is steamed, which allows the health-benefiting components to stay in tact. It contains a strong antioxidant called EGCG. Scientific research shows that green tea reduces the risk of cancer, lowers cholesterol, helps with cardiovascular disease, and even helps with weight loss. Researches found that in a study where a group was given caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than the group who were given only caffeine or a placebo. Green tea has also been found to prevent tooth decay because of its bacteria-fighting capabilities. The only negative effect of green tea is that it contains caffeine, which can promote insomnia. However, it does not have nearly as much as coffee, which has over 60 mg more caffeine. So, next time you reach for the coffee or black tea, remember these how much better GREEN tea is for you!!!
